The Waterloo Warriors were back into action on Black and Gold Day against the Windsor Lancers at Warrior Field. The Warriors were coming back from a win against the York Lions; however, they were unable to secure another win this weekend.

The Warriors began the game by accepting a 15-yard penalty from Windsor for unnecessary roughness. Windsor ended up scoring a field goal at 31 yards by Brady Lidster and they cut through the Warrior’s defence to score a touchdown by Joey Zorn. Windsor scored a team safety in the last five minutes, giving them a 12-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Despite the Warrior’s stronger defence during the second quarter, with the Warriors’ Anesu Latmore intercepting a pass by Windsor’s Danny Skelton, they were unable to score. The quarter ended with Windsor leading 15-0 with a 14-yard field goal by Lidster. In the third quarter, Waterloo was unable to get back into the game, with a strong field goal attempt from 20 yards by Windsor. In the last two minutes of the quarter, Windsor cracked down on the Warrior’s defence. Windsor’s Ben McJannet scored a touchdown and Lidster’s kick was good. Windsor’s lead 25-0 by the end of the third quarter.

The Warriors were looking for a comeback in the fourth quarter, but they couldn’t deliver. Lidster’s 12-yard field goal caused Windsor to lead by 28-0. In the last two minutes of the game, Windsor’s J. Cunningham scored a touchdown with another good kick from Lidster. Windsor scored a team safety with less than two minutes left in the game, causing them to win 37-0. It was a tough game with the Warriors coming back stronger each quarter, but they couldn’t deliver at the end. 

The Warriors will return on Sept. 16 against the Laurier Golden Hawks.
