The first game of the women’s rugby season started with a bang Sept. 7 against the Brock Badgers. The first three tries of the game were scored by Waterloo’s own scrum half Erika Schroeder, starting the score at 5–0. Schroeder helped start a Warrior-dominated possession for the rest of the game.
Back row Jessica Delaney was the next Warrior to score, performing a powerful run through heavy Badgers defence, to generate a greater advantage of 10–0. Before the break of the game, the Warriors were able to score once again: a penalty goal by second row Megan Colwell ended the first half of the game, leaving the score 13–0.
The second half of the game had Waterloo ruling the pitch, as try after try was scored by the Warriors. Back Rachel Brown scored first in the second half, then Schroeder scored a second try, extending the lead even further. Five more tries were landed thereafter by Warriors Jessie Brush, Linda Fan, Schroeder again, Danielle Duncan, and Emily Sanderson.
The final score was a whopping 51–0 for Waterloo. The Warriors have now set a high standard for themselves and a strong message to future opponents.
The Warriors will play an away game Sept. 12 against the York Lions.
