UW Librarians and Writing Centre team up

With the winter term almost over, the university is providing its students with a variety of resources to make it successfully through finals.

The University of Waterloo librarians and Writing Centre staff are holding drop-in sessions where they provide information about research and writing advice. They will be available from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Life Centre, Monday to Thursday until April.

Along with exams, a majority of final assignments are due during this time period.  Most projects require a wide amount of research and organization, plus students must come up with an idea, or a thesis, before they can begin.

“It’s a lot more casual,” said Chao Yang, English language teaching associate with the Writing Centre. “It’s a way for people to come visit us outside of the formal desk and office area so they can be more comfortable when asking for help.”

The two services will also be teaming up with the Student Success Office to provide research help every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. until the end of classes.

Students will be able get assistance in areas like database searching, essay organization, citations, topic development, thesis statements and even grammar.

“Come out and say hello. We’ll be here ‘til April,” said Al Smith, library cataloguing and information services associate.
