Here’s some good news for engineering and computer science students: the University of Waterloo is one of Google’s top pools for recruits, along with the University of Toronto and the University of Montreal.
Google has around 20,000 engineers and about 50,000 employees in 40 countries across the world. A high number of them are alumni of these three Canadian schools.
The United States’ offices often hire Canadian engineers to help with artificial intelligence issues, and many of them are Waterloo graduates. Steven Woods, Google’s Canadian engineering director was once also a Warrior, having obtained his masters’ degree and PhD at UW.
In an interview with <em>Canada’s Business Review</em>, Wood said, “We [at Google] have the best work environment, the best salary, the best benefits, and the best projects.”
He added that UW’s leading computer science program is the reason why tech companies choose Waterloo as a “natural” place of recruitment.
“The University of Waterloo is obviously a very strong attractor of top engineering and computer science students from the world over, so we do well as a result of that,” Woods said. “That’s one of the reasons we’re here [and] this has been a very productive place for hiring for us.”
