The Tim Hortons in the SLC has closed temporarily due to rats on the premises.
In a video posted to TikTok by an account called Rats at Waterloo, two rats can be seen running along the pipes inside the store room.
Rebecca Elming, director of media relations for the university, said that Food Services-operated eateries across campus are regularly inspected by internal and Region of Waterloo Public Health teams. Elming added that the isolated incident may be “related to recent construction at the Student Life Centre.”
Tim Hortons media relations said that they were in contact with the team at the location to determine how the incident happened and what actions to take to “ensure nothing similar ever happens again.”
The store will not be reopened until they are “assured that all [their] strict standards have been met.”
