UW alumnus Chris Williams, pictured above on the right, took home the Oscar for Best Animated Feature at the 87th Academy Awards. Williams — who, along with Byron Howard, won the award for <em>Big Hero 6</em> — graduated from UW in 1990 with a BA in fine arts, and has worked on several much-loved animation projects over the years. </p>
Most notably, he has writing credits on Mulan, Brother Bear, The Emperor’s New Groove, and Bolt, animation credits for Frozen, Bolt, and The Emperor’s New Groove, acting credits on Frozen and Bolt, as well as directorial credits for Bolt, Big Hero 6, and animated short Glago’s Guest. Bolt was nominated for Best Animated Feature in 2008, but the award went to Andrew Stanton for WALL-E.
After graduating from UW, Williams enrolled in the animation program at Sheridan College. He was then recruited by Disney, where he has continued to work ever since.
