Confederate flag officially removed from South Carolina’s state legislature

<span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Arial; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; white-space: pre-wrap; background-color: transparent; line-height: 1.38;">Thousands gathered July 10 to witness the removal of the confederate flag from the South Carolina Statehouse. As the flag was being taken down, the crowd sang, &ldquo;Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye,&rdquo; while others sang &ldquo;Amazing Grace.&rdquo; The controversial flag and its presence on the grounds of the state&rsquo;s legislature, flying high on a 30-foot pole, captured the spotlight in the aftermath of the Charleston church mass shooting. For many, the flag symbolized the racial divide that still exists in not only South Carolina, but the United States. </span></p>

Greece reaches deal with its creditors to avoid leaving the eurozone

Greece has pledged to its creditors that it will exercise strict austerity to avoid an exit from the eurozone that could have far reaching consequences for the global economy. The deal will now represent the country’s third bailout in the last five years. The deal comes on the heels of a referendum where the people of Greece voted against the very measures Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras agreed to with the new deal.

Canada dominating medal standings after first three days of competition at Pan Am games

Canada sits in first place in the medal standings with 10 gold medals and 24 medals overall — five more medals than second place United States. Day two of the games proved to be a massive haul for the Canadian team. Canada had a couple one-two finishes in women’s mountain biking and diving. The women’s rugby team secured goal with their impressive, lopsided victory over the Americans (55-7). Canada is setting a good early pace to beat their previous medal haul from 2011 when they collected a total of 119 medals, to finish fifth overall in the medal standings.
