Satellite Campus 101: Kitchener

0

The Health Sciences campus, located in Downtown Kitchener near King Street and Victoria Street, is home to the School of Pharmacy. The school is only open to pharmacy students, but there are plenty of interesting spots in and around the building if you know where to look.

Campus tips

The building itself has various study spots in the second and third floors and the library. Outdoor courtyard space with tables is also available, as are bookable group study spaces.

For a break from your books, head down to the dispensary self-serve cafe on the first floor, the grad student lounge and kitchen, or the School of Pharmacy student area complete with pool, foosball, and ping-pong. Or if you’re looking for fresh air, Cherry Park trail runs right behind the building, with Victoria Park a 15-minute walk or bus ride away as well, providing the opportunity for a quick outdoor excursion.

On-site parking is also available for $150 per term. The campus is located just a corner away from the ION, and is a 10-minute walk each from the Kitchener GO and VIA rail stations.

The campus only consists of the School of Pharmacy and the Waterloo/DeGroote School of Medicine, but it being right by Downtown Kitchener means there’s plenty of convenient options if you’re looking for a change in scenery. The Tannery, a collection of coffee shops and restaurants, is practically across the street, and it’s got several Kitchener specialties including Balzac’s, a classic off-campus study spot, Abe Erb, a bar and restaurant that also hosts events (next up: Sushi-making on Sept. 28!), and The Civil, a small but great pizza place. Smile Tiger Coffee Roasters sits right beside the Kitchener GO station, and features seasonal coffees if you’re a real connoisseur and not just in it for the socials.
