The University of Waterloo has announced its new fundraising goal of $100,000 for the Global Emergency Student Relief Fund, which works to support international students whose studies have been disrupted by emergencies like natural disasters or conflicts.
UW’s new goal is to raise the money by Sept. 30, which the university will put towards hosting undergraduate and graduate students from around the world. Money raised for the fund is used to cover expenses such as travel, accommodation, tuition, and other academic activities for students continuing their studies at Waterloo.
When the fund was launched in 2022, the university’s first fundraising appeal generated over $133,000. With this initial money, UW was able to host 34 students from Ukraine whose studies had been disrupted by the war.
The university hopes to continue offering opportunities for students around the world to study safely in Canada, and encourages community members to donate to the fund. Those interested in donating are given the option of donating once, donating monthly, or making a custom pledge. To learn more and donate to the fund, click here.
