Waterloo region vaccinates over 13,000 people against COVID-19

On Monday, February 08, 2021, The Waterloo Region COVID-19 task force revealed that over 5000 people in the Waterloo Region have received their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. A total of 5079 people was reported to be fully vaccinated on Monday, meaning about 0.86 per cent of the population has been vaccinated against COVID-19. 

On Friday, February, 12, 2021, the Region of Waterloo released a statement that they are aiming to provide 10000 vaccination a day in the community. According to the Onatio Government’s Three-Phase approach, the plan will use five types of clinic that prodive flexibility to deliver the vaccine based on the community’s needs. These five types of clinics include, Hospital clinic, mobile and on-site clinics, and public health clinics. 

As of Sunday, February, 21, 2021, there has been a total of 26,677 doses that have been administered and over 13000 people fully vaccinated. This accounts for 2.21% of the population. According the Region of Waterloo Website, the province is currently in phase 1, where vaccines are distributed to those at greatest risk of COVID-19. As Vaccines increase in supply, phase 3 is where they will be widely available to the general public. This phase is projected to start as early as August 2021. 

According to the Region of Waterloo website, there are 10,361 positive cases, with an increase of 56 new cases, 4 new active cases, 222 deaths, 18 currently hospitalized and no active outbreaks. More information can be found on the Region of Waterloo website.
