Found on University Avenue is the newly expanded Maxwell’s Concerts and Events. Seated between both UW and WLU, Maxwell’s offers a versatile music experience for students.

For three nights a week, from Tuesday to Thursday, Maxwell’s will feature musical programing such as Rockstar Karaoke on Tuesdays, where attendees have the chance to perform renditions of their favourite songs alongside a live band.

“It is a unique type of karaoke to the region where guests can actually sing with a live band. Our Rockstar Karaoke band plays a large selection of classic rock hits, everything from ACDC to U2,” said Paul Maxwell, the establishment’s namesake and president.

Starting Jan. 14, every Wednesday will feature performances by the Maxwell’s House Band.

“They play rock, blues, soul, funk, you name it basically … they play regularly with Juno-winning/nominated acts, they are regular players with individuals such as Dean Brody, Peter Katz, Lee Aaron and many more,” said Maxwell.

Ending the midweek is “Boot’s N’ Beers,” a weekly series of live country performances available every Thursday night. Starting Jan. 22, this series will expand to feature the talents of Top 40 country bands and a Top 40 country DJ.

In addition to these weekly concert series, other acclaimed performers will also be booked; however, as of now, those acts have yet to be determined.

“We are currently working on booking a variety of acclaimed touring artists,” Maxwell said. All updates on performing bands will be made available on their website or on their Facebook page.

For Rockstar Karaoke nights, the entry fee is only three dollars. Admission is completely free before 9 p.m. for Wednesday viewings of Maxwell’s House Band. After 9 p.m. entry is free for ladies and the regular three dollars for everybody else. Entry fees for Friday to Sunday will vary based on the performers available.

This new venue is significantly larger than the previous location — it’s able to house over 700 guests at a time and can park up to 250 cars on-site. It features two large bars, two concert stages and respective sound systems, and most importantly, washrooms to spare.

“[It’s] spacious and cool yet warm and inviting … Our expansion has already helped us reach new customers and we are now able to offer a more versatile space for events of all kinds,” Maxwell said.
